Culture Shock - The Dating Game in Brazil (Part 1)

Brazilians have a unique culture. Thank God for that. (As you can tell, I'm quite spiritual. My grandfather was hellfire-and-brimstone preacher, so...)

One of the things which I find refreshing is their 'mating dance.'

Through some act of God (thank you again), there are many more women in Brazil than there are men. Of course, that makes it more appealing for a Brasileira to leave Brazil in search of a mate.

Until then, though, why not shop around while you're still here. This explains why foreigners feel so welcome in Brazil. It's not difficult. Just walk outside your door and you'll feel right at home.

Women and girls in Brazil can be quite direct with their intentions.

If you're a man in Brazil, it's not only OK to stare at a woman you're attracted to, it's appreciated! (Oh, what a difference from the "proper" Anglo society where I was raised).

In fact, don't be surprised when you are the subject of admiring glances and even stares from Brazilian women.

It's a short-hand way of keeping things moving along at a breakneck pace. Everyone wants to look good here - and nobody's getting any younger!

(Amazingly, over half of the Brazilian population is under the age of 21).

Of course, not all women are going to stare. But if you catch an admiring glance, that's a green light to approach them. They're interested, so don't think twice about chatting them up. Brazilians are warm and friendly and love all the attention.

Needless to say, most good-looking girls in Rio don't speak English. Make it easy on everyone involved and learn to speak Portuguese. You will be rewarded for it. And your experience in Brazil will be exponentially richer.

Another thing about Rio that's interesting - on your first visit, you may think that Rio's a chillin' place, as you enjoy your leisurely vacation at the beach.

But the hedonistic Carioca lifestyle can be exhausting. There's a reason Rio's The World's Happiest City.

And when you learn more about the culture and become immersed in the day-to-day in Rio, you learn that the pace of life is actually very fast here, akin to New York City on the beach.

And there's nothing wrong with that.
