Madonna in Town to Help Promote 'Favela' Solutions

UPDATE: MADONNA EXTENDS STAY - RECEIVES $7.5 MILLION COMMITMENT

Madonna extended her stay in Rio in order to visit billionaire Eike Batista at his home in Angra. Batista is listed as #61 by Forbes Magazine in the World's Billionaires.

The father of two is one of Brazil's richest men with a fortune estimated at US$7.5 Billion.

Madonna flew on a helicopter with boyfriend Jesus Luz. Over dinner, the American pop star reportedly broke down in tears when she learned Batista would contribute to the new non-profit aimed at helping Rio's poorest children.

Also at the dinner were Rio de Janeiro State Governor Sergio Cabral and Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The mayor told the media that the singer had accepted his offer for her to perform at the next New Year's festival, for which some two million people would gather on Copacabana beach.

Pop divas keep popping into Rio.

Last week, Mariah Carey was in town for a performance at Oi Fashion Rocks at the Jockey Club.

Today, Madonna arrived at Santos Dumont Airport downtown at around noon. She is staying at the Fasano Hotel in Ipanema.

Pop superstar Madonna arrived in Rio
today with humanitarian intent

Tonight, she dined in Leblon with her 23-year old Brazilian boyfriend, model Jesus Luz, at Sushi Leblon. They met last December in Rio while Madonna was here for a photo shoot.

According to RJ Governor Sergio Cabral, Madonna is planning to meet with one of Brazil's wealthiest businesmen to setup social programs to provide help to citizens of Rio's notorious favelas.

Last month, she launched the construction of a multimillion dollar girls' school she is funding in the African country of Malawi.

According to O Globo, a surreptitious shoot that had been planned for a favela this afternoon was postponed when paparazzo were tipped off.

In addition to her humanitarian efforts, Madonna also plans to spend time with the local family of Jesus Luz while she's in town.
